Another 'M' - Markets

One of the great joys of travelling anywhere in the world  for me is food - restaurants,  visiting food markets, small food shops and foreign supermarkets. The markets we encountered on our recent trip were no exception - clean and full of fresh, good quality produce (and friendly people).

I love the attention to detail in the displays, the merchants and their willingness to communicate despite having no common language, the tasting here and there and, if circumstances permit, some shopping to eat on the spot or carry out for a snack. I usually leave feeling like I need a handy kitchen, right now.......

Most of the pictures (a random sampling from all four countries we visited) will speak for themselves.........and give you a sense of our experience. (I'll just add a few labels.)

First, some seeds to grow your own .........

A few biscuits for morning tea......

Fruit - fresh (imported at this time of year)

............... and dried.

Pulses, pastas and legumes.....

A charming young man who gave me permission to photograph in his father's shop.....

Nougat and other sweet treats......

                                 (Prepared salads)

                 Dried yoghurt cheeses....

(Flour)

And of course the ever present bread.

Hungry yet?

How else would you have your hot-dog?
