Ceramics and Other Delights

This is another  somewhat belated and unapologetically photo laden post - this time mainly of ceramics we encountered in museums, galleries and shops along our Silk Road journey earlier in the year. You will see the design links to the tiles, carpets and textiles. Such a rich history.......and something for everyone. They are in no particular order - I think we've gone past that point, don't you?

(Many  were behind glass which impacted on the photos - but you'll get the idea........)

                               (Ossaries)

                   Beautiful metalwork as well.......

(Above is a leather container for safely carrying precious porcelain bowls .)

                      (A traditional family pottery.)

                                                         (Every artisan needs an assistant.)

.................and a modern family pottery and gallery.............true artists.....

First traditional hospitality - tea and delicious homemade sweets and savouries............ served in a delightful courtyard which was surrounded by the pottery and gallery. An absolute oasis from the world outside the walls............)

(This was called traveller's bread - a dried, thin crispy version of the local breads and very tasty - as was everything....)

(Design samples - and I know what any quilters are thinking - that was my immediate reaction, too.)

Another museum.......or two......

These are the ones that came home with us......some traditional, some modern...

Til the next catch up,
Sue xxxx
